Will Aston Villa’s time in the Premier League be done when they sell off Christian Benteke to Liverpool?
The Reds, following the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City have triggered Benteke’s release clause from Villa so the bulldozing Belgian is likely to be tearing up Anfield next term.
The loss of Benteke is going to be huge for Villa, who have already been trimmed into 3/1 to suffer Premier League relegation at Bet365 because of the impending departure of their best player.
Benteke kept Tim Sherwood’s men in the top flight last season, scoring ten goals in Villa’s last eleven games of the season. With Villa only netting 38 league goals last term, Benteke with his 13 goals haul netted almost a third of all their goals as they finished just three points above the drop zone.
So does the loss of Benteke increase their chances of suffering the drop?
Only the three newly promoted clubs of Watford, Norwich and Bournemouth, joined by Sunderland are shorter priced to take the drop than Villa are for the 2015/16 season.
