Given the fact that Cyprus have managed to win just one of their last nine home matches, Wales could take a huge step towards next summer’s European Championship Finals with a win in the Mediterranean on Friday night.
The Welsh banked a nervy 2-1 home win over Cyprus in the first group meeting, playing the second half (most of it) with ten men and conceding a lot of possession because of it. They still managed to get more shots on target though than their opponents did.
Wales hold a 4-2 head to head lead over the Cypriots and this is the kind of game where Wales just need to turn up and perform and not let their standards drop.
They have put in such good work already in earning a draw and a victory over group favourite Belgium that they can’t undo all that with taking their eye off the ball here. Although Cyprus have lost four of their last seven they have scored in six of their last seven played.
All eyes will probably be on Gareth Bale to churn out something special here for Wales. The chance of Wales picking up a win are increased because Cyprus really need to win themselves to stake a claim for third place in the group.
If they open up, Bale can sting them on a counter attack and he is a 20/21 anytime goalscorer option for the game, with Wales at 4/5 or the victory, and Cyprus out at 9/2 for maximum points on home turf.
