Well the odds are pretty lopsided for the Women’s final of Wimbledon on saturday, which sees Serena Williams taking on Garbine Muguruza. Williams is trading as a heavy 1/7 favourite to walk away with what would be her 22nd Grand Slam title.
That would equal Steffi Graff’s all-time record and not only that, she would complete the Serena Slam for the second time in her career (holding all four major titles at the same time) and would need just the US Open later in the year to win all four majors in the same calendar year. Remarkable stuff.
However, young Spaniard Muguruza (4/1 at Coral to win the match) may be worth backing to sneak a set from the world number one.
From the three previous meetings between the two (all at Grand Slams) Muguruza won the second meeting between them at the 2014 French Open and took the first set off Williams when they reconnected at the 2015 Australian Open.
While it is unlikely that Muguruza will get her hands on the title in the game there may be value at 3/1 on Williams to win 2-1 in Set Betting.
In her last fifteen matches against the current top ten in the world, Muguruza has taken at least one set in each of them. She can heavy-hit with the best of them, but at the end of the day there’s no substitute for experience and Williams will be contesting her 25th Slam Final (holding a 20-4 record in them).
