Floyd Mayweather will be back in the ring in September in what is the final bout of his six fight deal with Showtime. There are rumours that the fight, which will be his 49th, could also be the final one of his career, something he himself has hinted at before.
Mayweather would equal Rocky Marciano’s unbeaten career record if he steps away with a win over Andre Berto. The reaction to the fight announcement has been largely that Mayweather is copping out, taking such an easy fight against a boxer who has lost three of his last six bouts.
Berto has lost against Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero in his last six fights, opponents which Mayweather has beaten. So the September bout looks as it is likely to be a non-contest really when “Money” could have chosen a much tougher route of facing Aamir Khan who beat Chris Algieri back in June.
Boxing Betting Offers – On the announcement of the fight, Mayweather was in as long as 1/80 favourite to win the fight with Bet365, Berto a distant 16/1 a fair reflection of the massive gulf in class between the two fighters.
