Fans couldn’t help notice the number 7 on the shoes of Roger Federer as he was in action at Wimbledon in the second round. The seven-time Wimbledon champion put in an immaculately serene performance against America’s Sam Querrey on Thursday.
The highlight of the Fed Express show was an outrageous lob which had the centre court crowd in rapture. Some brilliant touches were shown by Federer in the completely one-sided match and the lob, which he pulled off with his back to his opponent and striking the ball between his legs, was the icing on the cake.
Bookmaker Betfair were quick to trim the price of Federer to win Wimbledon 2015, what would be his eighth Championship at SW19, into a 6/1 shot. As the field gets whittled down to the final 32 in the men’s draw, the challenges are going to get tougher for Federer, especially at the semi final stage where Novak Djokovic should be waiting for him.
Djokovic has held firm as 6/5 favourite, but Andy Murray after blitzing Robin Haase in the second round, is in to a 2/1 quote with Coral to claim his second Wimbledon championship. Coral are offering a free bet refund if just one leg of a fivefold (or bigger) tennis acca lets you down, with a maximum refund of £25!
