The Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place on Friday, March 13, the final day of the race meeting. Before you part with your money, let’s have a look at the main contenders for winning the 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Silviniaco Conti will be looking to continue the good run of form that saw him win the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day and the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park. Together with champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls, this combination makes Conti a big contender on his third attempt. Conti is the top-priced favourite at 10-3.
Last year’s shock winner Lord Windermere has had two runs so far this season and hasn’t been very impressive. A below-par showing in the Lexus Chase will mean the Irish thoroughbred will need to improve if the defending champion is to silence the critics once again. Lord Windermere is priced at 10-1.
Much is being said about Road To Riches’ chances. After easily winning the Galway Plate at the Galway Festival and beating a Lexus Chase field full of tough competition has to put Ireland’s main hope right up there. Road To Riches at odds of 9-1 is a good bet.
Holywell’s Ivan Straker Memorial Chase victory at Kelso saw him reproduce some of the form displayed at Cheltenham and Aintree last season. Whilst Many Clouds’ Hennessy Gold Cup victory at Newbury was followed up by a win at the BetBright Cup Chase on Festival Trials Day, and so both have a decent shot at 8-1.
Of all the other horses left in the field, another worth having a punt on is last year’s Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up. On His Own is priced at 20-1. The horse also finished runner up to Road To Riches in the Lexus Chase.
