It was a bit of a strange first leg between these two. Celtic were completely dominant in the game at Parkhead but only managed the two goals. Put it down to early season rust maybe. The Scottish champions have an abundance of attacking talent, but in generally sticking with one up top the balance between everyone isn’t quite right.
They really should have put at least five goals on the board, even missing a penalty, which sparked a row between Leigh Griffiths and Stefan Johansen about who was going to take it. Griffiths finally took it and had it saved.
Still, the Icelanders only managed two shots in the game, neither of them getting on target. They are the Icelandic champions but are struggling this season down in sixth place and not having won any of their last eight games on home turf.
While Celtic aren’t out of sight in the aggregate, this is easier than the scoreline from the first leg suggests. So far from their three matches played previously against Icelandic opponents, Celtic have a 100% record and a 16-0 goal aggregate, so it’s likely that they will win again to nil. Little to argue about that.
