Celtic 4/6 to thaw Icelandic challenge in Champions League

Celtic break out of their summer rest to take on Stjarnan in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round on Wednesday night.

The action in the first leg comes from Parkhead and the Bhoys are running as heavy 1/12 odds on favourites to pick up a win in the match. That’s not exactly surprising.

While they haven’t played Stjarnan before, they have played four games against Icelandic opponents and Celtic have rattled off a 14-0 aggregate in those games. Fair to say that they will likely stretch that 100% and aggregate a little bit.

Stjarnan do have the advantage of being ten games into their new domestic season so are match sharp. They did also knockout Motherwell in last season’s UEFA Europa League qualifiers (only to get trounced by Inter Milan in the next round).

In that Europa League adventure, they took draws at Motherwell and Lech Poznan to their credit but have won just three of their last seven European competition matches. They may frustrate a rusty Celic early on, but the class of the Scottish Champions should pull through for a win to nil which has appeal at 4/6.
