Brazil vs Mexico Betting Preview

The second round of group matches in Group A will be played tomorrow at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza.

It was only a bit less than a year ago when Brazil played Mexico at the same stadium during the group stage of the Confederations Cup, which saw Brazil win that game 2-0. Neymar bagged two goals and was named man of the match in what was the best game of his international career. The Brazilians will no doubt be hoping he can repeat that performance.

Mexico typically haven’t done well against South American teams at the World Cup, losing eight of their previous eleven encounters. With that being said, they looked good in their first round game against Cameroon. The result in Mexico’s first game was 1-0, which is doing them no favours, as they were disallowed two goals for being offside, which replays show were incorrect decisions. Fortunately it didn’t change the result.

It must be said that Brazil were helped by the referee in their opening match against Croatia getting what seemed a very soft penalty. They went on to win the game 3-1, but it wasn’t as dominant a victory as the score would suggest.

To be fair Brazil were under an enormous weight of expectation in their opening game but you would expect this with 250 million Brazilians expecting them to win the World Cup. Some of the pressure should now be off the Brazilian team, and you would expect them to be much better in their second round game against Mexico.

Like the majority of games already witnessed in the 2014 World Cup so far, this game will be an open one. Both sides will be looking for their second win of the tournament to ensure progression through to the knockout stages. Brazil will go into the game as the odds on favourites. Mexico will look to break up play in the midfield, but the likes of the very talented Oscar, who was great in the first game, and an in form Neymar up front, should see Brazil get the win, although Mexico will be sure to put up a good fight.
