The opening World Cup match is just a few hours away and will be played between Brazil and Croatia at the Arena de São Paulo Stadium. For Brazil, it is expected to be their toughest group game.
Looking at the head to head record of both teams, they have only played each other twice before, one result a 1-1 draw in a World Cup friendly in 2005, but Brazil won their second encounter 1-0, which was played in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup.
The host nation are odds on favourites to win this game @ 1/3. Scolari’s team would be well prepared for Croatia. With the 2014 World Cup tournament hosted in Brazil, they will no doubt want to get off to a flying start, and give their fans optimism as they progress through the competition.
Brazil come into this World Cup after winning the Confederations Cup in dominant fashion, beating Spain 3-0 in the final. If their Confederations Cup performances against quality opposition is anything to go by, Brazil should start well against Croatia. In every match at the Confederations Cup they were leading at half time and maintained the advantage in every game they played.
Even though previous games suggest there probably won’t be many goals it will certainly be a difficult match for Croatia to keep out the likes of Neymar and Fred. It could be worthwhile putting some money on Brazil in the half time and full time betting markets, which is a great way to enhance the odds of a short odds favourite. This would mean Brazil would have to be winning the match at the end of both halves.
Sky Bet is offering 10/11 for a Brazil-Brazil result for the half time/full time betting market which is very reasonable.
