Brazil vs Chile Betting Preview

The first last of 16 game is about to get underway between two South American nations, Brazil and Chile.

As expected Brazil finished the top of their group while Chile were runners-up. However, it’s Chile that has gained many new fans this World Cup due to their determined and aggressive style of play which saw them defeat World Cup champions Spain 2-0 in the group stage and play well in their 0-2 loss to the Netherlands.

This win would have no doubt made them supremely confident going into the last of 16 match against Brazil. If they can beat the defending champions, who is to say they can’t overcome this next challenge, albeit a very big one!

The host nation who were odds on favorites to win the tournament before action began are still yet to find that next gear to replicate their Confederations Cup form that saw them winning that tournament.

Their third group match performance against Cameroon which saw them score 4 goals may mean they are probably bigger favorites than the bookmaker odds would suggest heading into their do or die encounter with Chile.

In their last 16 encounters between the two football crazy South American countries, Brazil have won 13, drawn 2, and lost 1. So history suggests that Chile will be up against it in this game. Their win against the 2010 World Cup champions will definitely give them more confidence, although Spain were always going to see their dominance come to an end at some point.

Likewise, Brazil’s win in dominant fashion against Cameroon needs to be put into perspective. Cameroon were terrible in this World Cup, things were looking bad for their campaign before action had even begun due to disputes over player bonuses.

Expect a tightly contested first half with both teams being defensive minded and placing a lot of importance on not conceding a goal early on in the contest. There should be more attacking opportunities as the game opens up in the second half and it may come down to a moment of brilliance from the likes of Neymar to decide the tie.

Brazil vs Chile prediction: 1-0 Brazil. This correct score is 7/1 at Coral. Also a wager on their being under 2.5 goals looks a good bet, you can get 6/5 at Coral.
