Did the Gunners just give themselves a huge boost in the next season’s Premier League title race by signing Petr Cech?
That could be a stroke of genius by Arsene Wenger, because Cech is still one of the top keepers around in Europe and he could save the Gunners a good 12 to 15 points next season, according to John Terry.
So by tightening up at the back, have the Gunners bolstered their chances of beating the likes of Chelsea and Man City to the punch when it comes to the league title next season?
If Cech had been at Arsenal over the last eleven season and had saved them 15 points per season, the Gunners would have won the title six times.
So clearly that’s an aspect which has been missing from them. Still bookmakers seem pretty unmoved by the news, bookmaker Coral having left Arsenal as joint 5/1 third favourites alongside Manchester United.
Granted Cech’s presence may save them a few points here and there, but the crucial times for the Cech and Arsenal partnership, will come when the Gunners meet the other title contenders. That is the area in which Arsenal’s title challenges usually fall down and where they most need a top shot stopper.
Cech’s arrival though has done nothing to close the gap from their 5/1 quote to the 5/4 on Chelsea and 11/4 on Man City in the EPL title odds.
