The game of bingo comes from a game called beano that was played at a country fair. It is an Italian word that means bean. During the 1930s, dried beans were being used to put over the called numbers, and when the player won they would shout “beano”. Then one day a player shouted “bingo”, which happened to be overheard by Edwin S. Lowe, who was a travelling toy salesman from New York. Lowe thought the word was a lot catchier than beano and began to host his own bingo games under this name, and it has stuck ever since.
It didn’t take very long before the number of combinations on the bingo card was increased and Lowe used bingo to help raise funds for a Catholic church in Pennsylvania. Because of this, the game of bingo grew rapidly in New York and throughout the rest of the country, providing a much needed income for churches. By the year 1934, there was around 10,000 bingo games being played on a weekly basis by church goers and recreational bingo players in the United States.
The game is the same as it is known today. Both 75-ball and 90-ball online bingo games are identical to the games that have been played at traditional bingo halls. The internet and creation of online bingo sites around the year 2003 has opened the doors for the game to be played in a fun online environment.
So, instead of sitting in a bingo hall with an announcer calling out the numbers, the numbers are displayed on the computer screen, and because most online bingo halls use auto daubers the numbers will be automatically marked on the bingo tickets.
There are numerous advantages to playing online bingo games. The integrated chat rooms that online bingo sites have allows for the players to socialize with other players. In addition to this, players can play multiple tickets at the same time, which of course, isn’t something which is possible if you were playing regular bingo.
