Although the Magpies survived relegation into the Championship this season questions are already being asked on whether they can avoid the drop next season?
Before the lucky escape this season Newcastle had a very poor run of form taking just one point from ten games. They were heading very close to the drop zone, but where saved by a 2-0 home win over West Ham and Hull City failing to beat Man Utd on the final day of the Premier League season.
Those results was enough to secure Newcastle’s Premier League status for another season, but online bookmaker William Hill aren’t too optimistic of them staying up next season, and are pricing the Magpies at 5/1 to be relegated next season.
For Newcastle it’s a time to rebuild and the first point of call is to decide whether interim boss John Carver should head out of the door. It’s been an awful spell for Carver in charge, so Newcastle surely must rebuild completely and look for a new manager. Former England boss Steve McClaren, who was sacked by Derby on Monday is favourite to take charge at St James’ Park. Other possible targets for Newcastle are David Moyes, Remi Garde, Frank de Boer and Michael Laudrup.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has said he will stay at the club until they win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League and promised the Newcastle faithful to put some much needed cash into the transfer market for whoever takes charge next season.
