The Premier League gets another Friday night treat this weekend and there is a firecracker of a game in store from Stamford Bridge. It is Chelsea v Liverpool on Friday night in the English top flight and it was the Reds who walked off with all three points from last season’s corresponding fixture. Jurgen Klopp’s men put a 3-1 win on the board and they will be hoping that their attack can go there again and do some more damage to the Blues. Liverpool are 9/4 to take the win.
Liverpool have also struck four goals past Leicester and Arsenal this season and they boast such a powerful attack. No other side in the English top flight has scored more goals during 2016 than Liverpool have and there’s no question about their attacking intent with the likes of Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino. They can score, but can they defend, because we have already seen some poor defending from this season?
So will the shaky Liverpool defence, which James Milner seems to be a part of this season, be able to stand up to the threats that Chelsea themselves pose? Chelsea’s Diego Costa has been on a mission this season with four goals in four league games under Antonio Conte. The big man has been making his presence felt and has been getting under the skin of opposing defenders, playing right on the edge of that thin disciplinary line.
But he is scoring and he can punish the Liverpool back line, with the support from Eden Hazard coming in heavily this season. Chelsea have lost just one of their last eight games in the Premier League against the Reds, but that was in this fixture last season. Can they bounce back and restore some order of things and retain their unbeaten start to the new season? The Blues are 5/4 to take the three points. The Chelsea defence has kept just the one clean sheet in their last fourteen Premier League home games. Will they be able to blank Liverpool’s high scoring attack?
