There is some huge snooker action rolling around in Manchester at the moment in the inaugural English Open. This is a new tournament and it is part of the new Home Series that has been created as well in the game. If any player can go out and win the English Open, Welsh Open, Scottish Open and Irish Open during the season, then they will be handed a cool £1 million as a bonus!
That’s some serious cash and it has even tempted Ronnie O’Sullivan to turn up and have a crack at the tournament. With Mark Selby being an early casualty at the event, it has somewhat furthered Ronnie O’Sullivan’s case to go out and win the title. This is a huge 128 man tournament and with the first four rounds being just a rapid shoot out over seven frames only, anything can happen.
It’s an exciting format and the tournament goes up to best of 9 for the quarters, best of 11 for the semi’s and then best of 17 for the final. We have seen the upset of Selby to Liam Highfield and we have also seen Alfie Burden crack off a 147 maximum as well (winning the 10,000 rolling 147 prize) and Xiao Guodong and Stephen Maguire both posted three century breaks in their respective first round victories.
It’s great stuff going on at the moment and there are still plenty of big names knocking around the draw like Judd Trump, Ding Junhui, Neil Robertson and Mark Allen. The thrills and spills will keep on coming throughout the week in the build up to the final which is on October 16th.
Who will be crowned the first ever winner of the English Open? Throughout the tournament, Bookmaker Coral, who are the sponsors of the tournament, are running a great money back special for your snooker betting.
Because they are celebrating the tournament as sponsors, they are running a Money Back Special as a free bet up to £25 if your match winner selection on a game from the event, loses in a match which contains a Century Break in the final frame. All that you have to do to qualifying is get a minimum £5 stake down on any head to head match betting market and you’ll get your stake refunded if your players loses.
This will only apply to the first real money wager of £5 or more on a given match. The free bet token will be with you by noon the following day and that has to be used on a snooker market.
