Chelsea have a tough game ahead of them on Sunday in the Premier League as they head off to Wembley to take on rivals Tottenham. The Blues have been severely weakened through injuries to the likes of Pedro and Eden Hazard, while Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill got themselves sent off in their opening game of the season. The Blues suffered a shock 3-2 home defeat against Burnley in their season opener, not the kind of start that Antonio Conte was looking for in their Premier League title defence season.
The Blues have not done the kind of shopping over the summer that they needed to do to add to their squad, really only making like for like changes. So now Conte is even considering throwing summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko into action, even though he’s not fit, just because the boss is short of options in the middle of the park. Bakayoko missed the entire pre-season because of injury and would have a massive weight on his shoulders in this one. But Chelsea need to show some character.
The Blues have to step up and fight here because they are at risk of having no points from their opening two games of the season. That would be a massive blow for them and they are underdogs for their trip to Wembley. Spurs opened the season with a win at Newcastle and they have gone unbeaten in their last four at home against Chelsea. But this isn’t White Hart Lane, this is at Wembley and Spurs don’t have great recent history there.
They had a failed Champions League campaign there recently and last season they lost there to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final. In that semi final, Chelsea rested some of their usual starting eleven and still managed to roll out the win over the Lilywhites. This time, more than ever, they are going to have to dig way down deep to pull out a victory, but if they can, it would be a huge three points and you could back them at a huge enhanced odds price to do it as well.
