It was another Australian Open title for Novak Djokovic and yet another Grand Slam title to his ever growing list of accolades. More importantly with him taking down Andy Murray again so easily in the final, it points to it being another massive season for the Serbian.
Andy Murray is, head and shoulders, the closest challenger for the top silverware in the game and not even he can get close to the sheer awesomeness of Djokovic. It’s not unreasonable to look at the 7/1 price that Betfair have on Djokovic pulling off a Golden Slam in 2016 and see the appeal.
This is an Olympic year of course, so you have the four Grand Slam titles along with the Olympic Gold up for grabs for Djokovic. Can he claim all five? Perhaps the question should be, can anyone stop him from achieving it?
Djokovic is already a strong even money ante-post price to win Wimbledon and even shorter to land the French Open, because the challenge of Rafael Nadal isn’t there any more on the clay of Paris. What will drive Djokovic even more in Paris of course is the fact that he has yet to get his hands on the French Open title.
You don’t even question his fitness and stamina in the back to back Slams of the summer and it could be an even bigger season than ever for one of the game’s greatest. Djokovic is 7/2 to claim the other three Slams of the season and land the calendar slam.
